An Amazing Retro Style Barber Shop

Earlier this year I discovered a hidden gem in Lexington, S.C. which I’ve continued to patronize ever since. I’m talking about a place called Paul’s Barbershop, and this place is really neat.

Paul has taken the time to collect barber shop paraphernalia and tools with which to decorate the barber shop, and it certainly feels like stepping back in time.

Paul Settle is the owner of Paul’s Barbershop. Paul has been a barber for 14 years. He says that he scours the country, looks all over the U.S., for different tools, decorations and accessories. One piece that really caught my eye is the child’s barber chair with the horse head. Made me go “Wow!” the first time I saw it. And I gotta admit: that shoe shine station is pretty dang cool!

Paul says that the oldest piece in his collection…the upright cabinet with the mirror on the front…dates back to between 1870 and 1880. Most everything else is 1890 to 1920.

Coming back to the current time, I find that Paul’s Barbershop is a great men’s barbershop where you can get a good, basic men’s haircut with straight razor shave for the neck. I also felt that his store would be good to focus on in an interior design sort of way. (I do architecture and interior design photography.) Paul was kind enough to let me come in after-hours and shoot his space.

Give Paul a visit if you are in need of a haircut or some great hair care products. Here’s the contract info:
